The day that the location of the Eurovision Song Contest had been announced, I immediately began a search on Booking for a hotel in Liverpool, England. Let the price gouging begin! I was shocked. Within 24 hours of the announcement, the hotel prices increased 100%.
Now, I am not a groupie of Eurovision, but I put the contest on my bucket list of travel cultural immersion experiences. It was up there with the Lucha Libre Mexican Wrestling matches.

Eurovision was sure to be a wild cultural immersion experience. Besides, we could attend King Charles’s Coronation the same week. Now we were talkin’!
But, in order to experience two incredible cultural immersion experiences, I needed to find cheaper lodging. I started with a Google search, to no avail. Our son is a ChatGPT convert, and he told me to give it a try with a specific prompt like, “You are a travel agent. List a variety of inexpensive guest accommodations in Liverpool, England. Include hotels, hostels, Airbnbs, and universities.” This was ChatGPT’s response.
Wow! What an amazing list! I never considered universities before, although my husband’s dream is to live in a college dorm and take classes and use the gym and especially eat in the cafeteria! We laugh about that all the time, but after ChatGPT’s response…we laugh no more! This became a real possibility.
So, I immediately did a Google search for the University of Liverpool guest accommodations in residence halls. And this is what I found…
University of Liverpool Guest Accommodations
This was amazing! I booked a two bedroom apartment immediately. Shhh! They didn’t know that Eurovision is in the city, so no price raises. Maybe they aren’t permitted to raise prices since it is a university accommodation. I won’t tell, if you don’t!
So, we are booked and going to Liverpool for two weeks during Eurovision and King Charles’s coronation! And we get to eat in the cafeteria and use the gym and pool for a small fee. My husband’s dreams came true! Now, we wait for the tickets for Eurovision to open to the public.
ChatGPT came to our rescue and opened the door to so many possibilities for its use in travel. I asked it to list the steps to finding university accommodations.
So, give it a try! You can become your own travel agent. ChatGPT is always there to assist you. Since booking at the University of Liverpool, we have booked rooms in Oxford University and Roehampton University. My husband is thrilled! 😆
